critical to personal development is understanding how emotions influence behaviour

although ‘obvious’, most ppl never reflect upon their emotional disposition; wasting opportunities to understand their underlying values and principles

here’s a fun trick to learn!

this lack of behavioural reflection is usually associated with the incomplete understanding of the specific nuances between various ‘primary emotions’

plutchik’s wheel of emotions is relevant:

Untitled

0: im angry 1: im angry bc im annoyed 2: im angry bc im annoyed that AAA has happened when i wanted BBB to happen

this example recognises that anger is the outcome of annoyance, revealing that your attitude is the result of having core values in conflict with outcome

recognising the demonstrated anger as the result of a conflict of values, allows the chance to understand your own principles

this can become a roadmap to learn how your personal values fit into greater ecosystems, and highlights potential opportunities to enact action

even with this framework, you are still the one to enact the action

the goal should be to bring clarity to the underlying emotions that you feel, hopefully to drive better outcomes
